Description

Cuir 1976 is a rich, addictive gourmand leather fragrance from Jean Paul Gaultier’s Les Ateliers Gaultier collection. Created by master perfumer Quentin Bisch, it plays with contrast, pairing the sweetness of candied chestnut with a deep, textured leather accord.

The fragrance opens with orange blossom, providing a soft floral brightness that keeps the composition from feeling too heavy. It’s smooth and slightly sweet, setting the stage for the much richer gourmand heart.

At the center is the star of the fragrance: candied chestnut. Warm, velvety and caramelized, it gives Cuir 1976 an almost edible sweetness. The chestnut has a creamy, roasted quality that creates a beautiful contrast against the darker leather underneath.

As it dries down, leather becomes increasingly prominent—dense, smooth and enveloping. Rather than an extremely smoky or aggressive leather, it works alongside the candied chestnut, creating a combination that feels sweet, warm, luxurious and slightly rebellious.

If you enjoy sweet gourmand fragrances with a darker leather edge, Cuir 1976 is an excellent choice. The combination of caramelized candied chestnut and rich leather gives it an unusual sweet-and-dark character that stands apart from traditional leather fragrances.
